Nepal and Kumbu Valley
Trekking and mountaineering
The Kumbu Valley is known worldwide as an outstanding area for trekking.
Every year there's almost a sort of pilgrimage of people who go there to see the majesty of Everest, the settlements of the Sherpas, the suspended bridges and the stunning countryside of high mountains.
We make the ascent slowly - proceeding from one village to another and sleeping in the characteristic lodges. We visit Thengboche e Tame monasteries where seeing the inmates perform their religious rituals leaves us with a lifelong memory.
After six days of walking we reach Kalapattar, which is a classic observation point for Everest, from where we have the chance to ascend to Island Peak at 6189 metres which in terms of difficulty is similar to Mont Blanc but at higher altitude.
A good alternative is an easier and less known walk up to the Merla Peak at 6441 metres. We sleep overnight under canvas and can return to the Kumbu Valley via the Amphu Labsta Pass at a height of 5700 metres.
